[Core Competencies]
The department can plan student guidance measures based on students' characteristics, fundamental literacy, and core competency goals. The planning and implementation are explained under the sections "Professional Core Competencies for Students in Each Program" and "Measures to Enhance Students' Professional Core Competencies".
1. Professional Core Competencies for Students in Each Program
According to the "Medium- to Long-Term University Development Plan for Academic Years 2023-2029," and adhering to the university motto, the university cultivates students with eight core indicators: "Interpersonal Interaction, Self-Growth, Humanities Literacy, International Mobility, Innovation & Creativity, Cross-Disciplinary Integration, Information Literacy, Professional Skills." To promote industry-academia collaboration and enhance national competitiveness, the university focuses on cultivating practical professionals urgently needed by the country and society. This serves as the basis for our educational objectives. Through leveraging the university’s advantageous fields, we actively fulfill social responsibilities and realize the educational philosophy and goals.
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, based on university-level indicators and college characteristics, focuses on students to cultivate "innovation, aesthetics, technology, and practice" in everyday life, aiming to achieve the university's goal of "Creating a Value-Added Life." This is reflected in "Basic Core Creative Ability," "Humanities and Aesthetic Ability," "Information Technology Application Ability," and "Local Care and Practice."

2. Measures to Enhance Students’ Professional Core Competencies
[Common Section]
The department considers faculty expertise, industry demand, and students’ future employment prospects. Our focus is on four areas: developing professional specialties, enhancing teaching quality, supporting student growth, and contributing to social service. Additionally, we aim to cultivate talent in digital video design, digital game design, and digital value-added design.
The Department of Multimedia Design focuses on developing the professional fields of "Digital Video Design, Digital Game Design, and Digital Value-Added Design," aiming to contribute to the advancement of Taiwan's digital content industry and enhance its international competitiveness, ushering in a new era of digital content.
Our curriculum revolves around three core directions: "Digital Video Design," "Digital Game Design," and "Digital Value-Added Design," covering areas such as game design, computer animation, digital video production, application software, digital value-added and learning design, and publishing. Through general education, design theory, and digital design skills, combined with specialized departmental courses, we cultivate students’ abilities in both design theory and practice, preparing them for careers in digital video design, digital game design, and digital value-added design.
(1) Digital Video Design
In today’s era of flourishing communication technology, online videos primarily target Generation Z audiences, who obtain most information through social media platforms or free video services such as YouTube. From self-media on YouTube, films, music, animation, websites, games, to digital value-added design, various media productions rely on the creativity and skills of digital video designers. Thus, training digital video design professionals is a fundamental goal, laying a solid foundation for multimedia creation applications. This curriculum aims at "Digital Video Design Material Development," "Integration and Promotion of Digital Video Design," "Digital Creative Value-Added Applications," "Enhancement of Digital Animation Techniques," and "Digital Video Design Production," establishing a comprehensive and integrated learning framework to achieve these objectives.
(2) Digital Game Design
According to the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA) industry research database, as of 2022, there are 3.2 billion gamers worldwide, highlighting the rapid growth of the digital game design industry and its key trends. The global video game market is expected to continue expanding, particularly in mobile games, single-player games, augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR), and multiplayer online game development, with substantial investment and innovation in these fields.
This curriculum focuses on human-computer interaction as the primary development direction, integrating art theory, creative thinking, and design methods, and combining 3D computer graphics, digital video design, and application development into interactive applications. Additionally, we have established the "MRRTC Mixed Reality Research & Teaching Center," collaborating with the Physical Education Office, Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, Department of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering, and Department of Aeronautical Engineering, focusing on developing hardware and software applications for health entertainment devices. This aims to cultivate professionals in digital game design, digital learning, interactive arts, and health & entertainment applications.
(3) Digital Value-Added Design
Design enhances human life quality, promotes social and cultural development, and increases enjoyment in life. Designers should grasp the pulse of society and culture and transform it into creative design to solve social and industrial problems—this is the core concept of "Digital Value-Added Design." This curriculum axis focuses on "Digital Value-Added Design" as the main development direction, cultivating talents with digital value-added design capabilities. The courses are based on art theory, creative thinking, and design methodology, establishing a complete and integrated learning framework. Through a series of in-depth courses, students achieve goals in "Digital Value-Added Design Content Development" and "Digital Creative Value-Added Applications."
