International Exchange

1. University Internationalization Policies

[Day Division – Undergraduate/Master’s Programs]

(1) Actively Promote Sister School Exchanges

Actively facilitate academic exchanges between our faculty and sister schools, including collaborative projects, short-term lectures, and speeches. Through international cooperation, we invite experts and scholars with rich practical experience to participate in short-term or mid-to-long-term academic exchanges, teaching, and thematic lecture series. This strengthens substantive academic research, faculty development, and mutual visits with world-class universities, introducing the latest technological knowledge to enhance our university’s international academic exchanges and accelerate its internationalization.

Over the years, our university has signed sister school agreements with 91 schools in 24 countries, including Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (India), Universitas Indonesia (Indonesia), Meiji University (Japan), Salzburg University of Applied Sciences (Austria), Technische Universität Ilmenau (Germany), and more.

(2) Recruit International Students to Promote Campus Globalization

Since the first semester of Academic Year 2010, the university has admitted international students, with 16 students enrolled in the first year. In the Fall semester of Academic Year 2023, there were 116 degree-seeking international students. To meet their needs, each college has developed and integrated existing English-taught courses into a complete international program. Additionally, in Academic Year 2023, three international faculty members were hired, with plans to continue recruiting international faculty in the future.

(3) Encourage Students to Obtain International Certifications and Participate in Competitions

We have established the "Subsidy Policy for Students Participating in Overseas Certification Exams and Competitions" to encourage and support students in obtaining international certifications, participating in invention awards, competitions, and other international exchange activities.

2. Strategies to Cultivate Students’ International Perspective and Mobility

(1) Recruit International Students in Alignment with University Policies

The university has established relevant regulations and measures such as the "Guidelines for Students Going Abroad for Study" and the "Scholarship Guidelines for Students Going Abroad." Since 2007, students have been sent annually for short- and long-term exchanges to institutions including SIUC, IPFW, PSU (USA), BBS (Hungary), UNECON, ITMO, MATI (Russia), Meiji University, Kinki University (Japan), Dongseo University (Korea), BCIT (Canada), Osaka Institute of Technology (Japan), KMUTT (Thailand), TU Dortmund, and University of Lübeck (Germany). The department also recruits international students for the Master’s Spring program.

(2) Actively Expand Global Academic Cooperation

The university actively expands global academic cooperation, aiming to internationalize Taiwanese talent and align with the New Southbound Policy. This enhances the willingness of international talent to engage in teaching and research exchanges in Taiwan. Current international sister school networks include the TAItech Alliance (6 Taiwanese universities) and HAWtech Alliance (Germany), as well as top Indian universities (IIT Delhi, IISc, IIT Madras, Chandigarh University, SNU Nivedita), Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (Vietnam), Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Kent University (UK), Çukurova University (Turkey), Gebze Technical University (Turkey), and institutions in the USA, UK, Germany, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Canada, Russia, Lithuania, Hungary, Cuba, Vietnam, India, Thailand, and Indonesia, totaling 80 sister schools. Faculty also regularly attend international education conferences such as APAIE, NAFSA, and EAIE to expand collaborative relationships. The department continues to promote academic exchanges with foreign universities and scholars in alignment with university internationalization initiatives.

(3) Encourage Students to Obtain International Certifications

Enhance students’ professional competencies to achieve internationally recognized workplace competitiveness. International certification exam content is integrated into courses, with faculty or industry experts forming advisory teams to provide professional guidance and mock exams, encouraging students to apply for the university’s skill-based awards.

3. Implementation Status of Department Initiatives

In the era of globalization, the department actively embraces internationalization, learning from others’ experiences while leveraging its unique strengths to enhance faculty and student competitiveness. The department strengthens the learning environment and promotes faculty-student exchanges with international universities, integrating into global development networks.

Internationalization in higher education involves multiple strategies, focusing on connecting with global standards, promoting exchanges, expanding academic networks, and cultivating local excellence to enhance competitiveness. The department implements internationalization strategies across curriculum, students, and faculty while balancing inbound and outbound exchanges. Leveraging the university’s technical-vocational characteristics and connecting with local industries, the goal is to establish an environment grounded in Taiwan but globally connected, creating an international academic community with industry-technical features over the next three years.

In design research and practice, the department emphasizes both theory and practice, with faculty from renowned schools providing rich academic knowledge and practical experience. The department collaborates with domestic and international research units to offer design research courses that enhance internationalization. Practically, workshops, staff exchanges, and student exchange programs promote international design culture and cross-national design practices. Long-term partners include Central Saint Martins (UAL, London), Goldsmiths University (London), Pratt Institute (USA), and Rochester Institute of Technology (USA). Implementation strategies are described in the following sections.

[Day Division] Undergraduate (4-year & 2-year programs) and Master’s Programs – Individual Items

(1) Recruit International Students

In alignment with the university’s policy to "Enhance International Student Recruitment," the department admits students from Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, and other countries interested in multimedia. In Academic Year 2021, the Master’s Spring program admitted 1 student from Russia; the undergraduate program admitted 12 students from Hong Kong/Macau, 14 overseas Chinese students, and 2 students from India. Each year, the program attracts students from various countries.

(2) Organize International Exchange Activities

[Day Division] Undergraduate (4-year & 2-year programs) and Master’s Programs – Individual Items

Dedicated international exchange staff coordinate activities when our university signs agreements with foreign universities or research institutes. These activities include academic conferences, international exhibitions, and technical competitions, promoting interaction and cooperation with international peers. Global scholars and experts are invited to participate, enhancing faculty and student engagement with the international community and cultural understanding.

From 2021 to 2023, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all exchange activities were suspended, limiting available data. In 2024, exchanges gradually resumed, including a planned online recruitment briefing with Clark University (USA) to promote international collaboration.

(3) Promote an All-English Teaching Environment

[Day Division] Master’s Program – Individual Items

The university’s multicultural environment encourages faculty to offer all-English courses, enhancing students’ language skills and facilitating international students’ learning. Combined with Chinese language proficiency assessments, international students’ Mandarin abilities are evaluated before enrollment. From 2021 to 2023, 13 bilingual courses were offered in the Master’s program.

(4) Promote Student Exchange and Overseas Internships

The department actively supports international exchange initiatives, strengthening student exchange programs and encouraging overseas study and internships to broaden perspectives and improve language skills. Overseas internships enable students to acquire advanced professional skills, understand foreign job markets, and gain hands-on experience. In Academic Year 2022, through the Ministry of Education’s "Digital Game Development Talent Program," a senior undergraduate student interned at Grounding Co., Tokyo, participating mainly in 3D background art design.

(5) Participate in International Conferences and Workshops

Faculty actively participate in international conferences to continually enhance knowledge and research capacity. From 2021 to 2023, faculty participated in a total of 23 international conferences and 94 workshops.
